Meet Michael Dearmin, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVS
Dr. Michael Dearmin grew up in several areas of the country including New York, Nevada, Idaho, Michigan and finally, California where he attended three major University of California schools. He received his bachelor’s degree in marine biology from UC Santa Cruz and a master’s degree in biology from UC Santa Barbara. In 2000, Dr. Dearmin earned his doctor of veterinary medicine from UC Davis. After graduation, he went on to complete a year-long rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Texas A&M.
Dr. Dearmin has a strong interest for functional and comparative anatomy, especially orthopedics. He completed a Small Animal Surgery Residency Program at the University of Georgia which lead him to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2006. After his residency, Dr. Dearmin practiced in northern California and Nevada before he joined the Pet Specialists of Monterey surgical department in January of 2016.
Married, with two boys, one lab, one chihuahua, one cat, two horses, and five chickens, Dr. Dearmin and his family spend most of their time outside. He enjoys being at the beach, sporting events with his kids, playing games and relaxing together at their home on the Monterey Peninsula. If you ask Dr. Dearmin his favorite thing about veterinary medicine, he will say it’s simple, the animals. In his work as a surgeon he has helped all sorts of animals, including jaguars and penguins!
