Emergency Care

The veterinarians and technical staff at (PSM) are trained to handle emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our emergency service is able to manage patients that require immediate medical attention, intensive care and hospitalization, or emergency surgical intervention. Our emergency doctors are not board-certified specialists or exotic animal specialists but they do see all species, and will work closely with the Avian and Exotic Clinic of the Monterey Peninsula as well as the specialists at PSM to provide top level care to every pet.

The emergency service is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and client satisfaction. Examples of conditions that may be considered an emergency include but are not limited to:

  • Any injury to the eye
  • Bee sting or insect bite
  • Bleeding
  • Blood in the feces or urine
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Inability to move or sudden weakness
  • Ingestion of a foreign object or unknown/toxic substance
  • Labor that does not progress or the inability to deliver puppies/kittens
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Seizures
  • Serious wound
  • Signs of extreme pain, such as whining or shaking
  • Signs of heatstroke
  • Snake bite
  • Straining to urinate (especially a male cat)
  • Suspected broken limb
  • Swollen, hard abdomen that is painful to the touch
  • Unusual or erratic behavior
  • Vomiting blood
