Frequently Asked Questions

Does Pet Specialists of Monterey accept credit cards or provide a payment plan?

Yes, we accept cash, checks, Visa, Discover, American Express or MasterCard. We do not offer payment plans, however we do accept CareCredit; applications are available at the front desk.


Will I receive an estimate of expenses before my pet receives care?

Yes, we will provide you with an itemized treatment plan and give you the chance to ask any questions you may have. We will keep you apprised of any changes to the agreed-upon treatment plan.


Is a deposit necessary before my pet receives care?

Yes, once you approve the treatment plan and cost estimate, we ask that you provide a deposit as a partial payment for services. This is generally the lower end of the estimate.


Will my family veterinarian be informed of my pet’s care and status?

Yes, we will work collaboratively with your family veterinarian and other specialists to ensure the best outcome for your pet. We will update your veterinarian as to your pet’s progress on a daily basis.


Can I visit my pet at the hospital?

Yes, visits are encouraged while your pet is recovering. However, we ask that you call to schedule visits. Visitations immediately after surgery are usually prohibited due to wanting to keep your pet’s excitement level down, while on pain medicine. Visits the day after surgery can usually be arranged.


Can I leave a blanket or toy with my pet?

We generally discourage patients from having any of their personally belongings in the hospital. This includes carriers and leashes. Due to the potential for items to become soiled, cleaned, and not returned, we recommend you save any belongings for their return home.
