Internal Medicine Specialist

Pet Specialists of Monterey (PSM) is an AAHA certified, state-of-the-art, 24-hour emergency and referral hospital located in beautiful Monterey, on the Central Coast of California. We are seeking a third Internal Medicine Specialist to join our growing emergency and specialty practice allowing for 7-day-a week internal medicine support and coverage.

Pet Specialists offers a complete in-hospital diagnostic suite including a 16 slice Toshiba CT Aquilion unit, stat-lab, rigid and flexible endoscopy, ultrasound, telemetry and digital radiography. Our hospital is staffed with two surgeons, two internists, one dermatologist, one cardiologist and 5 emergency doctors. Pet Specialists also has a Minimally Invasive Surgery program with rigid laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and arthroscopy. Pet Specialists seeks team members committed to offering the highest quality client service to our referring veterinarians, clients and their pets. The ideal applicant needs to be self-motivated, collaborative, and able to work harmoniously and effectively with other doctors, staff and referring veterinarians and have a good sense of humor. We have an incredible collaborative relationship with our RDVM’s, so the right candidate must be willing to interact in a variety of ways with our referring DVM’s including personal visits to their practices, present CE programs, and discuss cases by phone.

The hospital is located adjacent to the white sand beaches of Carmel and the spectacular coastline of Big Sur, and offers world-class recreational, athletic, dining, and cultural opportunities during your leisure time. The Monterey Bay is famous for its Marine Wildlife and is ideally located so as to enjoy and explore the central coast area, Napa Valley, San Francisco and Yosemite National Park. Our compensation package is comparable in salary and fringe benefits to other premier referral practices, plus we offer a generous signing bonus and financial assistance for relocating from your current location to the Monterey Bay Peninsula. PSM will also pay all interviewing related travel costs if candidate accepts position, or will pay a portion if candidate is interviewing at multiple practices in our geographic area.

Emergency Veterinarian

Pet Specialists of Monterey (PSM) is an AAHA certified, state-of-the-art, 24-hour emergency and referral hospital located in Monterey, on the beautiful central coast of California. We are seeking full time emergency veterinarians to join our team of thirteen doctors, including seven specialists. Our facility features a full in-house laboratory, digital radiographs, CT scan, ultrasound, color-flow doppler, telemetry unit, endoscopy, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and electrosurgical equipment. The environment is face-paced, challenging, and collaborative. With board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, dermatology and oncology (August 2018), the ideal candidate will be hard-working, motivated, enthusiastic and able to work harmoniously and effectively with other doctors, staff, and referring veterinarians. As a teaching hospital, all doctors play a role in training new graduates through our rotating small animal internship program.

PSM is located adjacent to the white sand beaches of Carmel and spectacular coastline of Big Sur, offering some of the most pristine beaches, hiking trails, and camping in California. The Monterey Peninsula beaches and mountain ranges support an active outdoor lifestyle with Fisherman’s wharf, world-class restaurants, art galleries and the Monterey Bay aquarium being a short distance away.

Veterinary Assistant

We are a continuously expanding practice currently hiring for full time and part time veterinary assistants to join our team. We are lucky to have a very diverse group of technicians and assistants ranging in experience to help you learn and grow into a successful career.

We are looking for a hard-working, motivated, enthusiastic and friendly, team-players that can multitask and be flexible. Experience at a veterinary clinic is definitely a plus, but we will train the right person without experience. Applicants must have compassion for owners and their pets since we strive as a business to provide excellent customer service. Applicants must be able to work weekends and holidays. Responsibilities include: rooming patients, obtaining TPR’s, patient restraint, running blood work in our in-house lab, entering in patients for digital radiographs, cleaning and stocking the surgical suite, sterilizing surgical packs, restocking treatment areas, general hospital maintenance, medical charting.

As the position grows there will be advancement in learning blood draws, catheter placement, pharmacology, surgical assisting, and anesthetic monitoring for basic procedures.

Responsibilities include: triage patients, room clients and patients, take an efficient and accurate history and vitals of patients, interact with clients, explain treatments, procedures, medications, and disease processes, give IM, IV, SQ injections, competent phlebotomist- from various veins and positions, able to place catheters, manage multiple patients, flow, and time management, relay phone messages to doctor and clients, accurately and efficiently administer advice to owners over the phone, critical care nursing, surgical assisting, anesthetic monitoring of critical cases, medical charting, and assisting veterinarian with procedures.
